Plano East - Girls Varsity Head Coach Derrick Richardson

​Coach Derrick Richardson is in his 1st season as the head girls basketball coach at Plano East.  He has 23 years of coaching experience.  Coach Richardson spent 13 years as a boys assistant coach in Plano ISD, at both Plano West and Plano East.  During his time as an assistant, he was a part of 265 wins, 9 playoff appearances, 4 district championships, 18 playoff wins, and a Texas 6A state championship.  In seven seasons as a head coach, he has a career record of 86-72.  His teams have made 4 playoff appearances and won 2 bi-district championships.
 
Coach Richardson is a former multi-sport All District/All State athlete, and a 1992 graduate of Grandfalls-Royalty High School.  He attended Angelo State University and Sul Ross State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies in 1998. He also served 6 years in the US Army and Texas Army National Guard.  He was honorably discharged from the service in 1999.
 
Coach Richardson and his wife Lisa have been married for 26 years.  They have 2 beautiful daughters, Merilyn (24) and Robyn (22).  Merilyn recently graduated from the University of North Texas.  Robyn is a student at Collin College.
